Invitation to become involved with IAM
The purpose of Information Awareness Month (IAM) is to increase public awareness of information, its place in all aspects of daily life and to highlight and promote the value of good information practices and policies.
IAM is a collaborative event between various bodies within the records, archives, library and information management community. This commonality of purpose is a reflection on the interest and commitment to sound information practices. IAM participating bodies are recognised as some of the most widely respected professional bodies in the information management community, within not only Australasia, but worldwide.
individuals are encouraged to participate in the activities held during this month. Information industry organisations and relevant governing bodies are encouraged to organise local events focussing on the importance of information, its impact on their organisation or society in general, the importance of good information management practices and promotion of the professional bodies supporting these practices.
Over the past four years representatives from ACT organisations have formed a working group of information industry professionals with the idea to organise events that brings everybody together to provide a common focus on managing information in the community. This has included a formal launch event, a gala dinner and a closing event. The launch event, in particular, is a high profile event involving government and industry representatives. In 2010, the event was launched by Senator Lundy and in 2009 by Minister Faulkner.
